Explore authentic Norwegian wool, famed for its warmth, lightness and durability.
High in the mountains of central Norway lies the beautiful and sparsely populated town of Rauma with its Ullvarefabrikk (wool factory). Rauma have spun quality yarn since 1927, and are today very proud to be one of the few woolen factories that supply authentic Norwegian woollen yarn produced from Norwegian sheep breeds and spun in Norway.
Two of the characteristics of Norwegian wool are resilience and elasticity. Rauma Wool is spun as carded yarn, which gives light and airy yarn qualities. The garments thus achieve the perfect balance between functionality and comfort.
The story of Rauma Ullvarefabrikk began when 25-year-old Erling Digernes took over the operation of a small wool factory in a sea bow at Veblungsnes, in Rauma. At the time, the factory had only three employees, simple machines and the work consisted mostly of manual work.
A lot has happened since then, but Rauma Ullvarefabrikk is still a family business run by the third generation of Digernes.
Today, they produce hundreds of thousands of skeins of yarn under the Rauma Garn brand each year, and supply various yarn qualities to more than 400 yarn shops at home and abroad. We have grown to over 60 employees who are all passionate about local and sustainable production, knitting tradition and the dissemination of history.
